Dalam menyediakan produk yang berkualitas tinggi memerlukan perencanaan pengendalian kualitas agar output yang dihasilkan baik. Pengendalian kualitas pada lintasan produksi dilakukan berdasarkan inspeksi dengan penerimaan produk yang memenuhi syarat. Metode pengendalian kualitas ini dilakukan dengan menempatkan stasiun inspeksi secara fleksibel untuk memisahkan produk rework untuk dikerjakan ulang dan scrap untuk di buang. Pengembangan model ini dilakukan dengan mengembangkan fungsi tujuan untuk meminimumkan total biaya produksi. Total biaya produksi terdiri dari biaya proses, biaya inspeksi, biaya menunggu, biaya instalasi stasiun inspeksi, biaya rework dan biaya scrap. Tujuannya untuk mencari konfigurasi alokasi stasiun inspeksi pada lintasan produksi dengan biaya yang minimum. Dari hasil penelitian di peroleh model alokasi stasiun inspeksi yang mampu meminimumkan biaya perakitan serta fleksibel terhadap perubahan parameter permintaan, biaya-biaya, probabilitas conforming, dan proporsi nonconforming.
